Snowball references the long tradition of paper lanterns from China and Japan. To get a flat sheet of paper to bend along the curving bamboo material demands deep knowledge and extraordinary skills. The cocooning material used for the Snowball is also manually applied. However, unlike the paper, it has the ability to shrink over frames of sturdy wires, resulting in the so-called double curved surfaces that are hardly achievable in any other material. This unique characteristic gives the valuable tradition of manual lantern making a new twist.
